• synthetic oil - performance gain?

i just switched to mobil 1 synthetc this weekend and i swear the car is signicantly faster (not that i needed it to take down a mob of ricers this weekend) but i know ive heard of it boosting performace slightly, but if i didnt know any better i would say that ive gained 10HP the way it drives now. does anyone have numbers?
I\'m so used to doing so much with so little, I can do anything with everything!

I heard somewhere about someone gaining 7hp by changing EVERY FLUID in the car to the very high dollar synthetic... but just by changing ur motor oil to mobil 1 synthetic I highly doubt you got 10hp..
Maybe it feels fresh now since it has clean oil in it.

im not sure exactly, but i doubt even if there was any gain, that it would be noticable. I cant imagine there being any change at all really.

I used to know a good documentary website on how good synthetic oils are. I can't find it right now.

They did a test with a Camaro SS on I think it was Hot Rod TV. Got like 5 hp out of it. Less friction means less parasitic loss you know.

i noticed a difference in mine when i went to Mobile 1 synthetic. How often, by the way, should you change synthetic oil. I'm gonna change mine again soon. it's got like 2,800 miles on it. The cool thing is is it seems to still be pretty clean :D

yeah, theoretically, since all the particles in synthetic are the same size, it can't break down. so, you'd never need to change it. in reality, however, it gets dirty and the chunks of dirt begin the breakdown process, you probably only need to change it every 10k or so but i do it about every 4k because it makes me feel better.

I think the mileage is 5k for synthetic.
With newer cars you don't have to change it for like 15k miles or more!
You're still not going to get 10hp from using it tho

Were you aware there at least four oil manufacturers that recommend 10,000 to 35,000 mile drain intervals?
I don't know about your cars...
but I change mine at 3k miles and it is dirty. I don't like dirty oil in my car...

AMSOIL for me. They recomend changing the filter every 12,500 miles and changing the oil every 25,000 miles. Since I am ruff on my car I change the filter every 9,000 miles and the oil every 18,00 miles.
