  • just got camaro. having trouble starting!

hey i just got my camaro today
    1997 camaro, 3.8 v6
    drove home, doing fine
drove around today, turned off and on like 5 times, started fine
then drove up to my friends, like 2 min away
brought up my comp stuff, turned off car, unloaded, then i went to move the car and it didnt start
i turned the key and it just went vrrrrr.....vrrrr
    like trying really hard
    but didnt start
and i looked at the volts, it was in the red, near the lowest possible
so my dad brought up other car, tried to jump
    did same thing
but then he held it down for a bit, and it finally started
pulled it back, turned it off, started it up worked fine
went inside, came back out like 1 hour later
didnt wanna start, but i just kept holding it, and it finally started
    so im guessing the starter?
i was thinking battery or alternator, but since i really dont think the jump did any thing because it did the exact same thing later but didnt need a jump
just wondering if my guess is right
    btw its got 67000 miles

Try letting the car run for awhile, the battery needs to charge. Then see if it will hold a charge.

if you jump start your car, let it run for a while, shut it off, and try to start it again immediately and it doesn't start- probably the alternator. if your car just can't hold a charge, i'd say the battery. if your car is turning over I'd think the starter is ok from what you've explained

i just added my new battery mod :D
