  • My Speedo doesn't work. . no shift

    I have a 95 camaro 3.8 auto
For some reason today my speedometer isn't working, and my car wont shift out of first.
It never did this to me before and It was only Saturday when I drove it last (and it was fine).
I checked all of the fuses with a test light and 2 wouldn't light up. The Crank Fuse and the IP dimmer fuse. I replaced them and they still don't light up.
I hooked a snapon scanner to my car and the only codes that came up were the o2 sensors. All of the other gauges work fine except the speedo.
Im not sure whats going on.. .
95 black 3.8 camaro, Intake, Pacesetters, Flowmaster 80 series, accel plugs and wires, B&M shift kit (eh could be better), hopefully a highflow cat soon. and a bunch of appearance mods.

Vehicle speed sensor. It's transmission related.

Are you showing any codes? Service engine light? P0500 or P0502?
Either way, the VSS is located on the passenger side of the tailshaft of the transmission. It has 1 bolt holding it in place, and has an o-ring seal. Directions for replacement:
Raise the car and support it with jackstands.
            Unplug the VSS.
Remove the bolt holding it in place.
Remove the VSS and o-ring, catching any tranny fluid that leaks out.
Replace the sensor and o-ring, reverse the steps, and torque the bolt back down to 97 LB-INCH.
            Reconnect the sensor.
Check tranny fluid if you lost any.

            Good luck.
