  • Gas Guage

Whenever the car is on the gas gauge stays on full how can I fix this because it is a pain watching the milege, and remember to reset the mileage everytime I fuel up.

    Thanks

welcome to the wonderful world of fbody fuel gauges. generally speaking there are quite a few fbods that have gas gauges that are way off. it has something to do with the way the fuel tank was made for our cars IIRC. which causes fuel guage readings to be a little off.

if it always stays on full, the float is probably broken. mine always reads full becuase of this.

i dont worry about it though i fuel up every other day anyways so it doesnt bother me.

You must drive alot to fill up every other day!! my gauge isnt broke but whenever i stop the gauge will go up and whenever i accelerate it will go down. same with turning, but then it eventually evens out

Yeah mine is very good either, when I fill up, it sticks around the full mark for a while, it slowly goes down untill I put a little over 200 miles on that tank of gas. Then it starts dropping fast.

exactly how mine is. it seems like im going to get around 300 miles on a full tank then it drops so fast and i only get 250 miles.

The fuel gage reading wrong is the fuel level sensor on our f-bodies it isnt serviced seperately from the fuel module. the thing with the gas saying on full for a while is a design flaw in gm gas tanks when you get to about a half a tank you dont really even have 5 gallons in your tank. so you really burn most of your gas on full.
