  • tips/alternatives for fuel pump on tbi car (question/help?)

I posted this in the 3rd gen section too, but thought I might get better coverage here. And I searched through the 56 posts that come up for "fuel pump" already, in case anyone was thinking of saying that...

My son has a 1992 RS (305 TBI). No pressurized fuel to the tbi, but fuel will run out of the line, and it continually siphoned out of the tank when I replaced the filter on Saturday.

I still need to determine if it is no electricity getting to the pump, or the pump is bad. There are 3 wires going to the pump, unfortunately the Haynes manual conveniently omits the tbi wiring diagram, there was only carb and tpi. Also their picture of terminal G on the aldl connector is an empty slot on this car.

Anybody know which wire is the pump feed, at the tank?

If it appears the pump is bad, any tips on replacing it? I've heard cut a hole in the trunk, or drop the rearend and the tank, or go with an inline. Since the gas still flows through the line, the inline sounds good, but I don't need a monster pump because the tbi is only supposed to see 13 psi. Any recommendations on procedure, or a 13 psi pump?

I got a little bit of help on the 3rd gen forum.

"Check the fuel pump relay or the oil pressure switches. Some fuelpumps are switched to oil pressure."

So I am continuing with diagnosis, when I run up to KY again this weekend to look at the car.

There are 3 wires going to the tank. Any ideas on which one is supposed to be hot for the pump? At this point if one is not hot, I don't know if that is ok or not.

Also any ideas on location of the relay? Location of the oil pressure switch?
The haynes manual was useless for the tbi version.

Hopefully it is a wiring problem, but the car ran fine, sat for 6 months, and now it doesn't... Sitting makes me think fuel rather than wiring.

At the end of Part Three, we changed the valvetrain of the 3.8-liter V6 in the Tom Henry RS. We installed new, Yella Terra "Ultralite" 1.8:1, aluminum roller rocker arms, Katech valve springs and Katech titanium retainers on our 3800 Series II V6.
Ultralites are nearly 25% lighter than the stock 1.6 rockers and 8% lighter than the SLP aluminum...
