im not sure what it is, ive gotten theories from egr valve, exhaust leak, rockers, loose rocker arm, lifters etc.

you know the sound quality isnt that great but it kinda sounds like rocker arms ticking or an exhaust leak

+1 definately sounds like a lifter is going limp.

Damn and the last thing you want is a limp lifter.
Let's flip a coin. Heads I get tail, Tails I get head.

yeah I was going to add maybe you should throw a blue pill in your oil and see if it "perks" up. I figured that would be a bit much though.

lol thats funny but your right. Add a quart of Lucas and if the sound is reduced then its probibly a lifter. If the sound doesnt change then its more than likely an exhaust leak. Could be something different but that sounds like one of the 2.

alright guys i bought a stethoscope and put it to both valve covers and the drivers side sounds a lot louder than the passenger. like metal to metal contact. any ideas? i think im just gonna rebuild it and have them put a comp cam in it and port the heads if they can.

try pulling the valve cover and tightening it down first. It doesn't ALWAYS work but it's a try...

old school trick, from an old guy... let your car get "stone cold" and spray/poor soapy water around the ex gasket, start your car and see if you get any bubbles. (found one on a 87 van that way).
