Hey all quick question, on my girlfriends 2000 firebird she said it’s been acting up as far as performance. She said that every time she goes above 40 MPH that it stats to hesitate and feels very sluggish. But it only happens when she gives the car gas. She said that it doesn’t happen at lower speeds or when she has it on cruse control. She said when she goes up hill or when she gets on the e-way that it does it the worst. And it only does it above 40 MPH. Anything 40 and under she says it wont do it. Any suggestions on what it may be????

            Re: performance question

When is the last time she had a tune up on the car? Her spark plugs could be rather old and the plug gaps have been corroded and what not. She could have a dirty air filter and also need a new oil change.

Is it an automatic or manual? If it is an auto have her check her tranny fluid and make sure that it isn't low and also ask her if she has changed her fuel filter anytime lately because it may be clogged from some bad gas or just so old that it has clogged down and doesn't flow evenly through it.

Good luck with the car, hope she gets it running back to normal a.s.a.p.

              Re: performance question

First thing I'd do is, if the fuel filter has not been replaced recently, is do that.

Also, if the engine is also missing, I'd inspect all ignition system components.

Lastly, you might consider testing the exhaust for a restricted cat.
