  • 3.4 Performance Question

I have a 1994 3.4 Camaro and recently replaced the engine with a 3.4 Firebird motor. I found out (after I replaced the motor) that the only thing wrong with my original was the crank sensor was bad. I have the engine stripped down to the block right now, and I'd like to build it right. I want to replace EVERYTHING in this engine with high-performance parts, but I'm having trouble finding all the "little things" for it. So far, the only things I can find are mostly bolt-on mods: Vortech Turbocharger, NOS Nitrous System, Pace Setter Headers, Jetchip Underdrive Pulleys, Jetchip Stage II, K&N air filter, Crane PowerMax Cam, Crane HI-6 Ignition & LX92 Coil Kit, MSD 6-Series Ignition, Comp Cams Magnum Rocker Arms, low-temp thermostat, Accel or Bosch fuel injectors, performance oxygen sensors, and cold-air induction(there might have been a couple more, but that's all I can think of right now). I want to replace EVERYTHING. Can somebody tell me where to find information on anything I missed? Any suggestions on which parts will give me the greatest horsepower gain? I would like to replace EVERYTHING I CAN POSSIBLY REPLACE; I have the engine apart, so I might as well do it ALL. Cost does not matter - I want a fast V6.

Thanks ahead of time for any help you can offer!
    Paul

    These ignitions won´t work on a 3.4!
The 3.4 has a Distributorless-Ignition-System (DIS), so only the MSD DIS-4 will work...

you need to give those ignition parts to us 3rd genners doing the 3.4 swap. We'll still retain the disributor & can use it ;)

Change: tranny fluid, diff fluid, coolant, o2 sensor, wheel bearing grease, vaccum hoses, fuel infector o-rings, oil

Have top of piston s & head cc thermal coated.
If auto, shift kit, manual, go centerforce

see about fiberglass body panels. Go light, but safe.

        Here's a start Heads & cam, etc.

First, do the usual bolt-ons: CAI, cat-back exhaust, TB bypass, plugs & wires, and go from there. If the car is an A4, go for a shift kit & a Vette servo, along w/a trans cooler to firm up the shifts & prolong trans life. If it's an M5, get a short-shifter (B&M, Hurst, Pro 5.0). A new clutch may also be in order. Nitrous is the quickest & easiest way to go fast, especially in the 3.4L. 75-100shot should be okay, but nothing more until you upgrade injectors & so forth. The 3.4's internals are fairly strong (cast pistons, forged rods & iron crank). Pacesetter & RKSport both make headers for the 3.4L, I think you can get the coated Pacesetters for around $250-300. For suspension, depending upon the route you want to take, you can either go w/the GM 1LE stuff, BMR, or whatever else you find you need for your setup. Now as for blowers/turbos, there's nothing on the market for the 3.4L at this time, but several people are working on turbo setups, and a supercharger setup should be in the works in the near future, hopefully.
