  • Alot of engine noise...

I have abnormally large amount of engine noise when accelerating. It starts around 2500-3000 rpm and stops when I hold a constant speed. I think it could be an exhaust manifold leak, but I'm not exactly sure. Any clue as to what this may be or if it is normal for this car.

It sounds like a hiss with a tick in it.

could be an exhaust manifold leak then or something like your egr tube leaking. Have you open the hood and tried listening for it at all? maybe have someone in the car rev it up for you to hear it in the higher rpms.

Had some friends of mine and a couple of piston engine aircraft mechanics that I work with listen to the noise in my engine. They seem to think it's an exhaust manifold leak. Is it to change the manifolds and gaskets myself, or should I take somewhere and pay to have it done? What is the normal charge for having a muffler shop do the repair?

Oh, one more thing, noticed a hint of a gas smell after pumping the throttle a couple of times. Any ideas as to what is causing that?

sounds like a manifold leak, its not a hard fix and can be done in about an hour if you know what youre doing. if you take it somewhere id say about 50 bucks or so minimum.

Being that you're from Dayton, any recommendations on where to take it?

i think muffler brothers on 40 can do it. if not check down on dixie at one of the 1932984093849 exhaust shops. i wouldnt take it to midas, they suck.

Got a bit of good news today. My exhaust manifold is not leaking. I have a leak somewhere on the exhaust pipe between the cat and where the pipe connects to the manifold. That will save me some cash.

Had one of my aircraft mechanics take a look at it.

Absolutely, but I'm partially deaf in one ear (from the military) and locating sounds is a little difficult sometimes.
