  • hard jump from 1st to 2nd gear

Hey guys, I need help. I dont know if this exact question has been posted before or what. I tried looking for it, but anyway - After driving on the interstate for a while or after a long drive, my car will jump really hard from 1st to 2nd gear. Not in any other gear - just from 1st to 2nd. It is so bad that I actually move in my seat when it happens. If i stop for a while and let my car idle it wont do it anymore. It hasnt done it in a really long time.Is it overheating? Is this going to cause further damage? WHATS HAPPENING?

Is it an automatic? If so, you didn't search very good. There should be ton of threads on this man with a wealth of information. My guess is that it's the notorious 4L60E tranny problem, where you can hear a whine from under the car, and the shifts slam you back hard. I you tap the gas in 2nd, you can hear the tranny catch up with the driveshaft, like a clunk. Do you have a SES light on? Scan it and see if you get the P1870 code. Drivetrain component slipping. If thats the case, you'll either need a new valve body, or a kit from some company called sonnix or sonnex. Something like that. Search a little bit more man, I've just grown to live with it when mine does it.
