  • Stumble in Low RPM, need some help....

When i start off, or when im just cruisin with RPM below 2 grand it stumbles, feels like a dead misfire. Not sure what would cause this at only low RPM. Any ideas or questions. Is there anything in the ignition that is speed or RPM dependant.....

I just had this problem with my 97 RS...The problem was degenerative and it got about 200% worse in a months time.

Here's the string if you want to read up on it.

It sounds like the problem for you is just starting and I don't want to freak you out here lol. But, it could be a number of things. It most likely has something to do with your ignition system.
    1. Ignition Coils
    2. Spark Plug Wires
    3. Spark Plugs
    or
    4. Fuel Filter

Now I don't know how many miles you have on any of these components, but the problem with my car was the Ignition Coils...they were totally shot..all three of them. I ordered MSD ignition coils from http://www.summitracing.com for $40. The OEM coils are around $70 depending on where you get them, and they don't perform as well as the MSD coils.

These fixed my problem and actually gave my car a little better performance. My throttle response has increased and it pulls slightly more..not too noticeable at all though.

Now it could be your wires or plugs. If the wires and/or plugs are old you may want to have them checked and replaced if need be. Usually you want to replace wires every 50,000 miles or so. The stock AC Delco wires would do fine. Or if you want something that looks better, MSD, Taylor, or Accel wires are pretty good. As for spark plugs, the AC Delco Plats will do just fine. The car's ignition system was designed for that spark plug so that's what I'd use.

Overall, I'd go have it tested...but my car was tested, and everything checked out okay...I went ahead and replaced the coils on a very educated guess and it fixed the problem.
