  • fuel pressure ?

okay I have 3.4 automatic and i checked the fuel pressure with engine off pump on and its 41-43 psi and after the pump primes it immediatly drops pressure to zero. But with the vehicle started and idling its at like 37psi.

my question is what does the pressure dropping so rapidly mean? If i remember right it means a leaking injector right or bad fuel pressure regulator.

and if its a fuel pressure regulator I have seen some i can buy but i am not sure how hard it is to change

    thanks for your input guys

    Jeremy

ps. my car runs decent but i get ****ty gas mileage and the motor only has 10k on it so i believe the injectors or fuel pressure regulator would cause this

LOL, you have have to allow more then 2 hours. And it sound like you already know whats wrong with it, and now you just have to start changing parts. It all should be pretty easy, just take time cause every thing is so tight. My guess would be the regulator, becuase if the injector was leaking that fast your car would be harder to start.

The injectors are abour 100 dollars each around here at local auto parts, i have seen them for much cheaper online. What im trying to say is it would be expensive just to change them out. I guess you could pull the fuel rail out with the injectors still on it, and turn the car on. This way you could see if any of them are leaking.

how would it be a big mess? the engine not running so they wont be spraying. they will just be pressurized. if one is spraying or dripping, you would know thats the bad one.

should you disconnect the starter or something? It sounded like you were literally supposed to turn it on. Is this bad? I'll have to try it sometime..
