  • Can't Get Shift Knob Off

    Ok here is the problem. On a 01 3.8 5 Speed i have tried turning this thing like crazy and it doesnt budge. its the stock knob and shifter. you can turn it so hard the shifter will start to turn. i stopped b/c i scared to break it. im thinking the person before super glued it or something or am i doing something wrong???? is there a retaining pin or something??? thanks

      It screws off. Try clamping the shaft so it doesn't turn while your unscrewing the knob.

      This is a Tremec T-5, correct? If not, then we don't know.

        yeah i i pretty sure its a tremec. do you think someone could have glued it so could it just be on that tight???

          Just screw it harder(that's what she said). You won't break it, yes it is glued on stock, but it will come off, mine was the same way.

              Mine was a big pain in the *** too, I used a set of vice grips on it to get it off.

                That's because the stock shifter is a POS, you're better off breaking it. But I agree, just turn it harder until it finally breaks loose. It DOES screw off so you really don't have many options

                  Actually I like the shifter nob over that of some other cars... Even though it does look ****tier...

                    Maybe unbolt the shifter stick (can you do that on the stock ones?) and vice that ***** off!

                      Maybe try it when its hot out... and the glue might loosen up a lttle.
