• 2nd gear syncro question

everytime i shift into second gear it grinds..

could it be that my clutch has a bad throwout bearing? or could it be a bad syncro.

when im driving normally in city traffic it doesnt grind. but when im racing or whatever.. and shift from 1st to second at about 5700 rpms, no matter how much i press down the clutch it still grinds.

if its a syncro, how much would this cost?

YOu beat that 1-2 shift kind of hard?

If its a synchro, you are looking at pretty much a rebuild... $700-$1100?

Oddly enough twice when I blew out my 2nd gear synchro I was fine racing it but driving normal, it woudl grind and kick me out, then eventually jsut not let me in at all...

BTw drivetrain might have better answers then here.

thats why im HOPEING its just the throw out bearing or something??? i dunno. normal driving conditions its fine. but it never throws me out of gear.

i guess and wait till i get the spec 3 put in.. should be a week or two

Are you doing the cluth yourself or having a place do it?

Might want to consider a used T5, and clutch install all at once... save a little money...

To be honest... I hoped for something simple, but it most likely woudl be affecting you in other gears...

If oyu raced or drive hard(I assumed you did if putting in a spec stage II) you most likely damaged something that needs to be rebuilt or replaced. 1-2 shift is usually the hardest. And what went out on me first on my trannies...

Well once when the 2n gear synchro was going bad, the 3rd gear one took a dump, and then I couldn't use 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear... that sucked... Had to drive 2,then 4.

well my uncle is a master mechanic.. he can do anything. he rebuilds tranny's also.. he is doing my clutch.

ya my 1 to 2 shift is harsh on the tranny. even my 2 to 3 is pretty harsh.

im putting a stage 3 in because i know sooner or later i will be getting a turbo kit for this car.. and i just want it to be prepared.
