  • OBDI? Please read.

I bought this a few weeks ago. It said it would work with 82-95 GM cars. My car is a 95. But when I tried to plug it in it would not fit. The pins on the device are flat, while the pins on my car are round. I looked at the back and it says it will work with a 94 3.4L. I am a little confused. What’s the difference? I thought 95's were OBDI? Is mine OBDII or something in between? What do I need to have to read codes?

And more importantly, I was in the process of buying a jet chip off of Camaro_SLP off of his 94. Does this mean it will not work?

Mine is a 95 with ODBI...

I think they started using ODBII with the 3.8L

      I don't see why it doesn't work...

I believe that some cars ie. Camaro , f-bird,& even a Ford T-Bird,used a precursor of OBD2.It was called OBD2 manufaturers specific. Its a 9 pin connector & looks almost identical to the standard OBD2 or as some call it OBD2 generic but the pin hook up inside the connector is different. This was for 94-95's & future expansion(OBD3?) only. So you will need a scanner with this type plug in & cable.I personnaly ran across a '94 Camaro with this set up so I know they had them.Don't know what % had this set up , but apparently yours does. You dan get an Auto-Xray unit ,I have one & have all cables for any domestic '83up & of course OBD2 generic.

Yea, I checked it and it has a 10 pen conector with 9 pins in it. So where can I get one of those code readers?

I have the Auto Xray & for the price it seems to be a pretty decent unit.J.C.Whitney mail order carries them & a few other brands that could be of use to you.Craftsman mail order catalogues have an OTC that might get you there. There are probably other automotive mail order books with similar options.Snap-on Tools have an excellant code reader , but I think it's almost 3k$ new, kind of pricey for DIYer.Online , check out www.autozray.com for their line of units.

                It's a OBD I car with a OBD 2 style connector.
