hmm seems this is the place to be not advanced tech, yes the small wire on the starter if you see a voltage reading when you turn the key to start then the silenoid is bad

When all else fails, tow it to your local GM dealer :D So, do you even here your starter trying to engage, or is it doing nothing at all?

Ok, on the starter there are 3 connections.

1 which has the lines from the battery... that one I don't check.
Another one with a similar sized nut on it which goes... somewhere.

Then the last one is this insignificant puny wire which goes into the stock wiring....

I hooked up to the puny wire and nothing, no voltage when key was turned on in ignition

          Starter does nothing at all.

Not going to the dealer.... they will look at my car and probably not want to work on it.

This might be dumb question since I'm not going to read through 4 pages :p

Have you pulled the starter to have it checked? You might have cooked it or the solinod (sp) is bad. I've had that happen... work for a few days, but then die. It's called "bad quality".

Ok if that little wire is the trigger signal which tells the silenoid to close to complete the circut to the starter then you have problems further up the line.

Does anyone know how to jump the gear shift saftey switch which only lets the car start in park?? that would be my next guess.

when you checked the voltage on the puny wire did you check it with the key in the "on" position or did you turn it all the way to the "start" position, if you turned it all the way to the start position your problem is farther up the line

Where is the neautral safety switch?

just guessing but I would bet it's in the console, kinda like the e-brake switch, just a guess though, I don't own one of them fancy schmancy automatic transmission things

Re: POS won't start again, I need help!

My center console is in my basement.

I have looked all around the shifter and found 1 cylindrical thing that has an electrical connection to it.

Doesn't look like a switch though

if you really need this sucker to start take a good size wire 10gauge, and jump it accross from the little puny wire where you say is no voltage to the big wire that supplies constant 12v that you checked already, do this with the key in the "on" position and it will engage your starter and get your motor running, basically bypassing all safety switches and stuff, other than that put your trans in neutral and try that.

1 cylindrical thing is proably the socket for the little light bulb that goes in our ash tray. well man it's official without a wiring diagram and access to the car I'm skunked but I'm somewhat sure your starter is ok based on your feedback on checking the voltage.

it's got to be some stupid little $.25 relay somewhere. Maybe recheck fuses, though I really doubt that's it.

I'm going to pass on the bridging of wires and bypassing all safety bits.

At this point I will scrub racing of the bird tonight.
Scrub racing of the bird Saturday

                              Remove starter on saturday
Bring back to auto parts store, have them test it and/ or replace it.

                              I'm pissed off.

Maybe I'll run the benz tonight
