• How to create a manual fan switch...

hey all, i need some more help once again...

i see a lot of u have a manual fan switch but the damn things cost like 60 bucks, so i decidede to make my own...

my idea to do this is as follows

1)Get some cord and a switch from Autozone ot wherever
2) Plug one end into the positve end of my battery
3) Plant the swith by the clutch somewhere (not noticable)
4) Plug the other end onto my positve fan connector...

does this sounds right? are there any easier ways?

I'm redoing mine at the moment (had to cut the switch out a few months back when trying to troubleshoot an issue). It's easy to do, but MAKE sure that you follow the directions carefully. If you have a short, or tap into the wrong wire you will have the fans running all the time.

I like this because I can turn the fans on when wanted and it doesn't disrupt the car turning them on as needed. The only downside to this that you might see:
If you have the fan switch at an "on" position when starting your car you will get a check engine light error. (I think it was a voltage check error)

all of the methods shown will set a ses light...

your method, could work, with a highcurrent relay, to just hardwire the fan connector, you will not get any ses lights, powering the fan on the high current side of the fan relay. The fans can draw in excess of 30 amps, so that is why you can't just use a simple switch, and cheap wire for the direct power method.

The proper way is to get the factory relays to turn the fan on, so you just need to supply a ground signal to pins J for low and H and J for high on the 10 pin connector, on passenger side fender (93-02 93's may be just 1 fan speed, not sure on other V6 years, ect.. But that is how the slp switch works, and it works 93-02)

in order to keep the computer happy, you need to make sure that it does not see a direct short to ground when the fans are on. The slp switch inserts electronics into the fan circuit, to acomplish this.

The fans do not trip the ses light UNLESS (from what I've personally seen) you have the fans running when you start the car. Turning them on after the car is running or turning them off before you start the car doesn't set off any lights.

speed. so in order to NOT set a SES light, should i put a resistor in mine? I did mine a while ago. but it sets off a code... i hate that code ...

lemme know what to do to get rid of the light while using the fanmod

that is a good write up, and explains how to add LEd's very nicely.

some cars are more sensitive than others with the ses lights. The newer V6's seem to work fine as long as the car is not on when you turn it on, I know my ls1 will throw a light, even with car on, when i turn the fan switch on. That was, before i built my slp style switch with electronics in the plug in harness. There is another method, that i've used with success on many other vehicles, and that is the "makoto fan switch" do a yahoo search, and you get a good write up, but use a 2 watt resitor for the 47 ohm ones, between the fan switch, and the splice.

Mine's only set of the ses light once or twice and I've had it in since summer. The link AZv6camaro posted is my write up, that's how I did mine. Even if it does set off a ses light, it's not a big deal to turn off the light. Pull the 2 fuses for the computer, turn the car in the on position (don't start it) leave it that way for like 10 min, turn the car off, put the fuses back in and walah! Ses light is reset. :D
