#3 misfire

  • #3 misfire

    well here goes.....last week my car came up with the problem of a number 3 misfire which was verified by a mechanic and by a totally seperate code checker. brought it into the mechanic and had the coil packs changed. this fixed the issue as far as i could tell for about 2 days. it went back to the same issue. brought it back in, they changed the plug wires and plugs and did compression test on the number 3 cylinder and still the same issues with good compression on number 3. the engine block is brand new maybe 6 months old. this problem starts getting worse the warmer the engine gets. the only thing i could think of is bad injector or possibly low compression on another cylinder which typically would mean a bad cylinder ring but its not burning oil so i rule that out for the most part but possible fuel issue may be possible, anyone got any ideas!

    also, the car seems to idle fine with a slight chug here and there but nothing that would be noticable unless your paying attention to it

        no ignition mods done. only electrical mod done is the hp chip

            what exactly does the icm do. what does it control besides the obvious-ignition.
            what are the symptoms of a bad injector?
            and would the brain of the system cause an issue or like this or would that act in a more severe if a problem other than misfire

              ive checked with a mechanic about the icm being bad or possibly bad, it may be that, but it would throw an entirely different code than cylinder 3 misfire. so im leaning away from that being an issue. today they are doing comp tests on the rest of the cylinders which came up with no issues but they are now doing the injectors to see if there is an issue with one of them which is my guess as far as whats wrong, but well soon see

                just fyi, i was called by the mech a while ago and they found the issue. a fouled injector was causing the # 3 misfire. cleaned the injector and runs fine
