I think it is the crossmember...the dohicky that is half way down the center of the car and the exhaust and DS run above it. I need to lower it down a little so the exhaust stops hitting it....anyone know the size washers I need to move it down a little?

Actually, it adds reinforcement to the floorpan and the driveshaft tunnel. Somebody at GM decided that it was worth the effort/expense to put one on your vehicle in the first place; I'm not entirely convinced it's a good idea to take it off.
I think BMR makes an aftermarket brace for about $90 or so that only weighs about 12 lbs.... if memory serves. It usually doesn't.

im not sure how much bracing it could do... i bent mine almost in half by hand (im not a big guy at all)
from what ive heard apparently it functions kinda like a driveshaft saftey loop, if you were to drop the d/s from the tailshaft then it wouldnt let the d/s hit the ground and pole vault the car, im not too concerned with that though, so i removed mine-Aaron, AKA ATL2001
93 3.4L
www.ilfba.com
