• Help -- Wires or Coil????

I have a 97 Firebird V6 stock 32000 miles. Was sitting in the drive thru today. I noticed a misfire then a series of misfires (Flashing SES light at that point) Lost of power and hardly running at this point. Stalled out and won't start at all after that. Towed home

Does replacing the wires and plugs and maybe a coil -- Sound resonable here or am I way off base?

Plugs and wires would be a very good start. They are a good upgrade anyway and most likely, that's where your problems lie.

Stalled and won't start sounds waaaayyy more serious than plugs and wires. A misfire will give you rough idle and bad acceleration but you would have to fried all of em to kill the engine and keep it from starting.

On a side note, I see you're from Cincy. Check out the RedLineVSix forum in the Regional section.

OK, I notice the wires had arched on the manifold. I'm going to start there - since it has to be done anyway. I hear that a Control Mod is prone on this car to go out -- any truth and could it behave this way.

Side note: I never noticed before but can you hear a stock fuel pump prime for a second or two when you turn the Key on?

        Thanks

Yes you're supposed to hear the stock fuel pump prime whenever you put the key into the acc position
