  • Wipers wont go down every time

    Has anyone had this problem???
I have a 2000 Firebird and sometimes when I turn off the windshield wipers they wont go down all the way. Just to the point they set when on delay. And I don’t want to drive around all Damn day with them ¼ up!! Whats UP ?????
They work great make no noise and later they have been going down after I turn the car off and back on and then start the wipers up again.
I am I going to need new motors??

9 times out of 10 the problem is in the motor. The motor controls the park position. there is a grove that it setles in to let it know that it's parked. This grove can break and the motor will return back up and then stop. It's hard to tell without running tests or looking at it but removing the wiper arms and cowl so that you can see the motor would be a good start

I had my wipers get stuck in the up position. I ended up ripping the wiper motor out. To get to it you have to remove both arms and the drivers-side cowling. Then there's 2 bolts and a nut that hold the motor and bracketry in place.

Below is a picture I took and marked up what happened. I had no idea what was wrong with it, just had to play with it to figure out how it worked and took a guess. #1 that top plate (marked in red) got spun around somehow. The notch is supposed to snap in by the spring-loaded catch. I had to loosen the screw and turn that plate around. #2 the stop-switch (marked in yellow) wasn't contacting the edge of the bracket anymore, it looked like it had been bent. So I took a hammer and screwdriver and tapped it in enough so that it made contact when the motor arm would spin around.

Getting it all back together was far easier than getting it apart. I'm just glad I fixed it and didn't end up needing to buy any parts. Took me about 2 hours though.

^^^^ Is there a larger picture of that? I can't exactly place it.

And I have the same problem, when I turn them off, they stay up about 1/4 of the way.

If by larger picture you mean a wider shot showing just where the motor is located.

That is with both arms and the driver's-side plastic cowl removed as stated above, and the motor unmounted and pulled out to show the orientation of that top plate.

I'm having some problems with my windsheild wipers too, but kinda different than what everyone else is having. Heres the real problem though, I cant get the f***ing windsheild wiper arm off!! I'd have the nut off, but the arm wont pull off the shaft its mounted on. Can anyone help me with this one?? Its both of the wiper arms BTW.

Yeah, they like to sieze on there. Lift the arm into the full up position, (away from the windshield) then grab ahold of the lower portion and wiggle/tilt back and forth until it works itself loose. Don't try and pry it with anything, you could damage the windshield under the plastic.
