checking fuses (need help)

Whats the PROPER way to check the fuses in our cars? should i disconnect the negative terminal of the battery? and then just pull em out? thanks in advance.

Dont disconnect the battery. Just pull them out. Usually if the fuse is blown it will have a black discoloration near the tips.
