this has got to be the biggest pain in the a$$....first, the fans wouldn't work. then they would go on whether the switch was on or off. then they stopped working again, and my car made a strange clicking noise and wouldn't start....i thought i had blown a fuse or something, i was freaking out. turns out i just ran down the battery from having the door open the whole time. i jumped it, started fine. fans worked again, but they were on whether the switch was on or off. i decided to try again tomorrow, so i unhooked the wire. as i went to turn the key to get some power, i noticed smoke. the wire i had connected to the switch wire was smoking like crazy. i looked like a jamaican guy hotboxing his car :D i quickly unhooked the two wires. this is by far the hardest thing i've done on my car. any help is appreciated.

like I said. don;t guess. wire the whole thing yourself. It's very very simple. All you have to deal with are ground. Take the diagram that I gave you http://shbox.com/1/fan_switch_wires.jpg and deside whihc you want, high or low speed. might as well do high. so find that wire (the blue one labled H). run a ground to the one side of the switch, then the other side of teh switch should be the wire going to that blue wire labled H. Here. I drew you a simple diagram. http://www.mainstreamtopics.com/harlan/switch.JPG

i did it that way exactly. the fans came on regardless of whether the switch was turned on or off. and after i disconnected the wire from the fan wire, and turned the power on, the end of the wire hooked up to the switch started to smoke like crazy. what's the problem?

            Intresting...
From what HBH has said and looking at the Haynes manual... it should have worked that way.

Now if you disconnected from the Blue wire and then the floating wire attached to the switch smoked I have no idea unless you have a hot ground.

Where are you getting your ground from?

Are you 100% sure you are not going 12V to switch to blue fan wire?

If you want, I'll sell you everything you need for $20 shipped.

A DPDT center off switch, wires already color coded and soldered to the switch, resistors already soldered in. Will include all the wire tap ins you need.

              http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...5_112_full.jpg

All you will have to do is drill a hole , to mount the switch and tap in to 3 wires.

This setup won't have any leds though, but you can do high and low options.

either you taped into the wwrong wire or you are not on a ground. Nothing else it could be.

sounds like the wire your had the other side of the switch was connected to a +12 switched wire.

Fan switches are not that hard ;)

Ground pin G for low speed
Ground pin H and G for high speed.

just don't connect the G and H together, or you will have problems. use a DPDT switch
