  • Dumb oil change question

Would a car drain more oil during an oil change if the car is level or on ramps?

    Re: Dumb oil change question

I've always done it on ramps, and I let drain until its only a small drip. So I would say on ramps.

Ramps or a jack and you'll be fine.

Okay, just figuring that most of us don't have a lift in the garage. It's probably a minuscule amount old oil anyway.

should actually drain better on an angle...

I'd think the difference is almost zero between angled and flat. Oil is going to get stuck in litle nooks and crannies when you drain flat, its going to get stuck in different nooks and crannies at an angle. Plus the drain bolt is such that its essentially the low point in the pan flat or angled. I think youre looking at 6 of one or half dozen of the other.

X like 20. just change every 3,000 or if it's getting dirty. My moms old lumina minivan had a 3.8 with 220,000 miles when we sold it. Would tow a kawisaki mule on a trailer we over any posted speed limit at that too. Dad used conventional every 3,000. on jackstands but it really makes no difference as long as you change it. Don't use mobile clean 15,000, tried it oil got dark at like 5,000 so spun another supertech oil filter on there added a half quart and oil cleaned up but definately won't do it again felt to guilty at 9,000miles.
