  • Is this temp normal?

All right, I just saw another post and this got me thinking, ever since I have had my car it has always ran at 210 degrees and in traffic it can hit 220-230. Is that too hot? Should it be lower? I have made sure it has plenty of coolent in it, the radiator was replaced only a few years ago, and it is a 3.4L. Thanks.

it should only be at 210 during traffic and staging lanes. look into buying a new thermostat. there are really cheap and a 5 minute install

if your not in the red i wouldnt worry too too much, but would definitely fix it, my car has ran about 3/4 the guagebefore and it still doesnt hit red. only did it once though in heavy traffic and really hot day.

i would get a lower thermostat and/or get a manual fan switch. this will fix you overheating problems and your traffic overheating problems. 160 for max power, but you may sacrifice winter heating and some people say it is bad for your enine to run that cold. 180 would be good for you and i would think at least for me a 170 thermos if made would be the best. manual fan switch would be the first mod though.

also for BLLDOGG you are running way to hot during the staging lines. go to the track with a buddy. when you are in the staging lines keep your car off with the hood up. key on (not long enough to kill the battery though) with heater at full blast, have your buddy help you push your car through the staging lines to keep it cool. then when you start your car, still have the heat up full blast until you actually race then turn all acc. off.

tip: while in the staging lines doing what was said above put a towel down and lay a bag of ice on your engine(intake). be careful not to drip or drop any water or melted ice on the track or people will get mad.

with ice and pushing your car through the staging lines with the hood up you should run better times. when i was done racing and on my way back i always popped my hood, not open but alittle, and drove back to the staging lines like that and with the heater back on, then hit the lines shut her off and open the hood all the way.

sorry about the long message, andrew.brandon definitely get a new thermo and a manual fan switch, should take care of the problem.

also make sure your mixture of antifreeze and water is good. correct me if im wrong, but antifreeze ups the boiling point and keeps it cooler
