  • A/c not working in the dd, charged but no clutch

charged the ac in my dd, 96 lumina. It worked at the time and was cold. I didnt have a gauge. It no longer works, clutch doesnt engage and the pressure is a little on the high side at 55psi.

Is there a way to lower the pressure and that would make it engage again ?

depressed the needle, pressure is right around 35-40 now. Compressor still does not kick on. All fuses seem fine. I took the 2 wire connector off the compressor and tested it with a test light and got nothing.

    Any insights ?

swapped the relay with a different one, nothing. I hotwired the compressor and added some r134, it got cold but the second i take the hot lead off the clutch stops spinning.

BCM? That's what's keeping my A/C from working on my Impala but it's an 01... It's giving me some other issues as well, though...

do your rad fans kick on when you turn your A/C on?

i am not sure about the rad fans. I fooled with the key on and off and what not a few times and it works now.

I get the suspicion it might leak though.

Sounds to me like something with the compressor clutch. But then again with you jumping it and it working it might be ok.

I would double check or replace the A/C fuse. Sometimes they look OK but are bad. I don't think your compressor is the problem (except for a potential leak) since you (a) confirmed no power at the test light and (b) jumped the compressor and it worked fine. So it's the circuit. If the fuse is OK, you'll have to start checking the wiring. If the fuse checks out, then I would (1) confirm there is power at the fuse. (2) if there is power, then confirm there is power at the contacts where the relay plugs in. If that checks out, start checking the wiring at the compressor and work back toward the fuse.

With the relay, make sure you check both the relay control circuit and the circuit that powers the compressor.
