  • Powerdyne Question

Did Powerdyne specifically manufacture a supercharger system for the V6 Camaro? I am looking on Powerdyne's website and doing some searches, and cannot locate an instruction manual. Are all Powerdyne kits for V6s custom?

    Re: Powerdyne Question

Their where first made by Vector Performance (who I think went out of business, correct me if I'm wrong, then Rksport got the releash of them and I think they stopped making them. Someone correct me if this is wrong. But I think thats how it went.

yep thats correct, there was word a new company was gonna make them but I highly doubt they will, i put a kit on my car last year, completely custom, do some searches and you might get some info on making a kit, dont even think about it though unless you know someone at a machine shop.. if you do happen to go with a powerdyne kit I have my vortech FMU sitting here that I no longer need :)

        Re: Powerdyne Question

James Bawkey closed down Vector Perf. in Jan. of 2001. Mine was the last car to roll out from his shop. When I went to pick up my bird one time and he was already hosing his shop to clean it. I got my SC from Vector in mid '99.

He closed it because he wanted to spend more time with his 7 year old daughter. He pretty much worked alone in his shop and he spends way too much time working. Plus he wanted to start another business of doing lifts for trucks and SUV's. He mentioned to me about continuing to make the kit for RKSport and FTForce.

Yeah thats right Ryan. You really could use a tune anyway to get full potential from your kit, then you can tune in the bigger injectors too. Did you ever get your gauges hooked up?

                Re: Powerdyne Question

im pretty sure i got the last kit from rk sport, which they had to build the hard piping for it anyways, and the supercharger unit i got i had to take apart and turn to get it to fit. i dont see why it would be a problem to keep building them.

the instruction manual i got was copied so many times i couldnt really see the pictures. and the text was somewhat vague

The original instructins blow a big one n e ways.

Scroll down to the powerdyne section and chek it out.

Just wasnt cost effictive really. alot of us couldnt afford the V8 and bought the S/C years later. and not every v6 is a HP Addict like V8 owners are so not all of us would buy kits.

My Camaro with the s/c ran faster than my TA does stock... :)
                    13.6 vs. 13.7

And the Camaro was running lean at the time. (leaner than it should have been anyway) hptuners wasn't available for it yet, so tuning was a big hurdle.

If I'd known how well it was going to run, I might not have even done the v8 swap. But I already had the parts bought when I got the s/c all worked out.

thanks again for what you did in the past for us 3.8 guys and the powerdynes and all. We have come along way since then but you helped with slippage for sure on the powerdynes. Used your belt wrap setup on the custom powerdyne kit we put on my brothers firebird this past fall.

Time for ya to buy another 3.8 don't ya think? :)

I've been thinking about what I can do to get a little more out of the 1.6L in the Aveo. Two more payments to go, then it's paid for, and the warranty is up...

But would rather spend the money on some other things right now. :)

It's good to see that the 3.8's are getting some good stuff done to them!
