  • injectors for turbo

Well I finally decided to go ahead and install my turbo on my car the way it is. I figured before I decide on a compression ratio to make the pistons for and a cam profile I decided it would be good to see how it preforms on my stock setup. I'll just have to run really low boost so as not to distroy anything. Anyway, I'm wondering what size injector to order from Jegs along with some other items of choice. I'm thinking 24# but I'm not sure. What would you guys that have had turbos on this engine reccomend? Is it going to run rough at idle w/ 24#? Should I go lower? Higher? I would like to keep these injectors on the new engine as well that will see boost up to 15#s or so eventually. Anything else I'd need? I'm doing injectors and adjustable fuel pressure regulator for now.

    Injector Math:

    #/hr = HP * BSFC / CYLS / DUTY CYCLE

BSFC = Brake Specific Fuel Consumption
I guess if I understand this right, it's how efficient the car is. Most N/A cars are .5.. I think turbocharged cars run .45

    Duty Cycle
This is how much you wanna work the injectors. according to several unnamed sources -- its a bad idea to go over 85% or below 75%, so figure .8 on that one. (happy medium)

so by those calculations, if you had an N/A car:
    #/hr = HP * .5 / 6 / .8
if you have a Turbo'd car:
    #/hr = HP * .45 / 6 / .8

You should check my figures for the BSFC to make sure they are accurate, but other than that -- that should all be right.

Does raising the pressure w/ an afpr change these equations? If you raised the pressure could you get away with a smaller injector?

changing the fuel pressure would more than likely change either your: duty cycle or BSFC

not sure cause i havent played with one. anyone out there know the answer to this? maybe this should be asked in the advanced technical forum as well since its a little beyond general tech info.

can't raise FP and go to a smaller injector or you will go too high on the duty cycle, gotta stay around 85%

Id go with stock LT1 injectors for now, they are easy and cheap to get, and 24lb/hr should be enough for now.

Where can you find LT1 injectors? Are you talking about used ones? Ebay doesn't have a good selection right now. Can't mustang 5.0 injectors be used as well?

You're gonna be stinking rich at idle and lean on top unless you control it.

I will let 'em go for $150.00 and I assume you have a way to control them? Yes as v6turbo has stated depending on what your FPR is...you will definately need to control 'em at the bottom, they won't lean out at the top-end though...@ idle and low RPMs is what you want to watch...

How exactly do you control the injectors? If i were just to slap in some lt1 injectors would the car run good or is it going to be bad. Just a little confused.

mine runs just fine, when the engine is under load it richens up though, but its perfect on top end, just bottom end is a little rich, makes a mean idle ;)

Simple. 19 resistors, 4 relays, one throttle switch, 4-8 position dip switches, and a whole lotta wire.
