  • L67 and L36 similarities

I am tired of reading around different posts about L67 top swaps on an L36... What I am tired of is all these people telling others false information like the L36 isn't made to handle boost and it will blow up. Let me spread some knowledge so people can know exactly what they're dealing with. I was uncomfortable with my top swap until I found this info.

I have confirmed with my local dealership that these parts share the IDENTICAL GM part numbers and are the exact Same between L67 and L36:
Engine block, camshaft, crankshaft, main and rod bearings, cam bearings, crank timing gear, timing chain and timing cover.
The only differences are the rods, pistons and cam gear. The pistons and rods are different, but made of the same material. The pistons and rods are slightly shorter, to lessen the compression on L36s from the factory to dumb down the performance. I will post up official gm part numbers when I can get to my list this evening.

I always thought it was the rods, pistons and pistin rings that were different and not much else. Yes lower compression can always take more boost.

On later L67's the L32 rods are a different material, they are forged, but will work on the L36's.

Your right , not forged but there kind of misleading when they say forged powdered metal connecting rods.
