  • What rear end will work?

I am looking to replace the rear end from my RS with one from a Z28 in order to get LSD, 3.43 gears, and disk brakes. Which years will fit? Am I bound to 93-97, or can I go anywhere from 93-02?

pretty much, any 4th gen. rear end from any f-body would fit, with/without modification

i think 3.42 will be the hard part.

if you go 98+ you will need to modify your brake setup

any rear will bolt in the only thing is the brakes if it is a 4 channel (traction control) depending if your car has traction control or not you may need to swap brake lines i could tell you how to do it however i did it for my car

Actually, I kind of ran into an unforseen problem with mine. I got a rear end from a '95 Z28, and I believe I'm going to have to pull the axles again to swap the brake system onto the rear end, because of the parking brake on the 98+ (or 97+, I can never figure out what changed when). Not really a big deal, just means I'll have to remove the rear end cover again and put in more fresh gear lube which is kind of a pain.

you could get new ebrake cables for like 40 from autozone thats what i did cause i had a rear out of a 98 in my 94 but that is up to you and your budget

Yeah, I could have done that, but I want to retain the stock brakes. A little challenge never scared me, I've already pulled the axles once, can't be any harder to do it a second time.

So the main issue with a 98-02 rear would be the e-brake?

I'm not sure about ebrake issue but main issue you have to worry about is matching up a 3 channel or 4 channel brake setup. 3 channel is no traction control and abs sensor is in pumpkin and 4 channel has traction control with abs sensors in each hub

does you car have one brake hose going from the body to the rear end or two brake hoses, another way to tell is if you have a TCS switch inside the car, let me know what you find and i will explain after
