series is based on the gears, 2 series is anything 3.08 and below, 3 series is 3.23, 3.42 and up, I believe there is a 4 series but you'd have to do more research on that.

7.5 and 7.625 diff is the size of the rear end, like a ford 9 inch.

I'm pretty sure the gears and carrier are the same for a 7.5 and 7.625. If you are buying gears and you currently have a 3.08 rear end and want to go up to 3.23 or 3.42's then you will also need to get a 3 series carrier.

yeah, you can get 3.73 or 4.10's for a two series carrier. Are you trying to get gears for your open differential?

the cheaper sportsman gears are for "normal street-driven applications". The regular richmond gears can handle more for drag racing and such.

i'm sure you'd be fine with the sportsman but $40 more isn't much for some peace of mind.

Ok lets clear up a little confusion. The first part you said about series 2 being anything 3.08 and below is correct. However, the other part of that is if you are equiped with 3.08 or below gears from the factory you have a series 2 carrier with series 2 gears. If you are 3.23 or above from the factory you have series 3 gears with a series 3 carrier. If you have a series 2 carrier and want gears above 3.08 then just buy whatever gears you want (4.10, 3.73, ect) and make sure they are for a series 2 carrier. I know for a fact Strange sells gears in all ratios for both carriers. Check Thunderracing.
