  • Want a new cam setup

So looking for some suggestions for a new cam setup. I will probably stay N/A for now. But anyways my current mod list is:

Intake: Whisper air lid, SLP ram air kit, K&N
Exhaust: Pacesetter headers, 3" hi-flow cat, 2.75" Flowmaster catback

If you guys can shoot me some good setups that will put out some good N/A performance with minimum problems in the future meaning tell me all the necessary parts I will need to have to make this thing run right the first time without risking anything. I see the Abbott cam seems to be a favorite over here.

abbott racing cam apparently takes a ton of tuning to get it to run right...if you are looking for minimal problems and headaches you might want to consider the GT2 cam instead...

I was thinking the Comp Cam 260H was best performance and easy to install, besides it's the highest spec cam to run hydraulic lifters,it also comes as a kit with valve springs,seals,etc..
Well that's just my 2 cents.

not sure what cam that is .... if you are getting it from the heads and cam bible though...keep in mind that it is probably out dated... I think the last time someone updated it was like 2003?

that is for a 3.4, this is a 3.8 he is looking for.

GT2 cam or abbott na cam are good choices

Re: Want a new cam setup

I've got the GT2 and am currently running it with basically no tune; I ran for a few months with no tune at all, then talked to a buddy who said he'd scan it just to make sure everything is ok using HP Tuners. Hooked it up, and injector duty was pretty high so we swapped in some 28.5# LS1 injectors he had; tuned for them and the car's ran great ever since. Didn't do anything to timing or fuel except for the injector swap, and my best time has been a 14.48 @ 95.33 w/2.17 60' and 1460 DA. If you have tuning capabilites, then I've heard nothing but good about Abbott's N/A cam; even some are running it untuned I believe. Another thing I like about the GT2 is, except for the cam, my internals are completely stock (minus balance shaft delete and oil pressure mod).

Re: Want a new cam setup

Yea, i would have no problem dumpin $500 on HPtuners if I can mess with it as much and whenever i want. My problem is I have no idea how to use the program let alone know what Im even tuning if i did know how to.

My mechanic might, but I dont know.. I just wouldnt see him real thrilled about messing with it haha.

Re: Want a new cam setup

No one really knows how to tune when they first buy HPT, so no worries. If you're planning on staying NA, both the Abbott and GT2 will suit you nicely. The Abbott cam has be taken to higher numbers than the GT2 on average, but as said above, it'll take tuning to tap its potential. I myself run this cam, and while it isn't tuned, it pulls much stronger than before.

yea you'll be fine with that...might want to have an lsd put in the rear end though if you dont have the y87 package...otherwise you wont use any of the power you gain...just light the tire up....

Yea I got that package with the 3.42 gear. But last time I went to get oil changed they said I had a heavy rear axle leak. So I dunno what to do to resolve that issue
