  • Megasquirt??

I am building my 3.4 camaro up this winter with regular bolt ons and some internal work, since i cant get a tune for my car i have been considering using a megasquirt system, anyone on hear have any experiance with it? like how complicated is it to use? from what i understand it hooks up to a laptop. and do i even need to tune my car with these mods

    Flowmaster cat back
    No cat
    pacesetter headers
    K&N CAI
Cam (not sure which one, still deciding)
    larger injectors
    ported and polishing throttle body
    3.73s

also since i plan to run 3.73s will megasquirt allow me to change my speedo?

no. try the PCM and tuning section. they've talked about MS quite a bit. Search there and you might find some stuff.

This poor guy is looking for answers. Dont forward questions to advanced tech the mod for this section is obsessive compulsive and will probably erase the question before he has a chance to get an answer.

            Excuse you..

Questions will be forwarded when needed to a more appropriate section when needed, rather than the stereo/electronics section.

IF the mod of this section has a problem with the question, he can forward it to PCM & Tuning if he so choses.

              Here are some short answers:
You probably don't even need larger injectors for these mods. The PCM would probably still compensate for the lean effect the more air will give it unless you go crazy with the cam.

But you can get even more benifit from tuning. IE: more spark advance, more power biased fuel tuning, and this can be done with megasquirt. I'm currently running one on my turbo/intercooled 3.4 controlling fuel and spark.

Megasquirt will not easially allow control of the speedometer.
              But this should: http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...rod/prd126.htm

thanks for the info, had alot of answers in it. one question i have about the injectors. i have been reading as much as i can about my car and i have heard the stock injectors can only support the stock 160 HP. now i know with the mods im adding im not going to build a high horse fire breather but i would asume that with my mods i should be well over 160, im aiming for the 180-190 range. so do you think it would be worth it to go with a slightly bigger set of injectors ? i want to make as much power as possible by keeping it NA and reliable

                  Re: Megasquirt??

I think the stock 3.4L injectors, which are 17#/hr injectors could support as much as 170-180hp(at 85% duty cycle) depending on how efficient the combustion is. From your mod list I kind of doubt you'd jump 30hp unless you had some head and intake porting to go along with it.

One thing you could try is do your mod list with stock injectors and then get a wide-band o2 sensor to see if you're running lean. This would tell you that you need more fuel and that either the stock computer programing can't compensate enough or that the injectors are maxing out. You could always go back later and add slightly larger injectors and/or a megasquirt. Just keep in mind that the stock computer will not be aware of the larger injectors and it will pull fuel just as it would add it with the stock injectors with more air in order to maintain the air/fuel ratio that it wants. And it can only make these adjustments within a certain span. So if you go too large in injectors you'd run rich at idle but probably would do ok under load.

The other option is to do both larger injectors and megasquirt, which you can tell exactly what size injectors you have and can adjust the fuel to do whatever you want. Plus more spark advance will help power as well, especially if you want to go as far as advancing it enough to need preminum fuel.
