  • 3800 V6 Ignition Timing?

Anyone know what the optimum ignition timing on the 3800 V6 is? I'm getting an average of ~17 degrees throughout the RPM range.

I'm noticing a power loss on my car and am trying to track it...

    Let me know!

    :D

can't tell you an optimum reading, but i'm pretty sure the computer adjusts that automatically to run at optimum. maybe i'm confusing it with something else, but i think that's right. have you checked out the fuel filter, air filter, and plugs? common stuff, but that's the first thing i'd check before playing with timing.

17 is low. What was the coolant temp and Intake Air temp?

Hotter the engine gets, more timing gets pulled.

You should be floating around 24-22-20 (1,2,3) I think. I know people with the Jet get around 27-25-24.

Right before the bird died we took reading at idle and it was 18.5? I think
I didn't have enough time to research this and learn more, sorry

Highest was 20.5 at the very beginning of my first run. It dropped to 17.0, and timing stayed there all the subsequent runs. It did fluctuate to 18.5 maximum, but mainly stayed at 17.

Intake temps were around 60-65 degrees (cold night). Coolant temps stay at 185-195 the entire time...

LTerms and O2 readings were almost dead on.

I got a maximum of 2.3* KR on one run, but mainly stayed at around 0-1.0 for most of the runs. I only got KR at the expected beginning of a WOT run, and where I've seen it before: 3500-4500. Max KR was (where it used to be around 4-6) at 4100-4200 where it hit 2.3*. Wonder what's going on then???

Anyway, thanks for the information. I figured 17 was WAY low...now I need to find out why it's so low....ARGH!
