  • camshaft question.... need help asap

i have been doing some reading on cams and all i want to is replace the cam in my car. i thinking of going with the compcam that the are selling at grandprixstore.com. all i want to replace is the cam, my car has low miles on it. do i need to replace any other parts of the drivetrain. the advertisment for the cam had 1.6 roller rocks next to the specs... also how will my 75shot of n20 react to this. i'll be using the maft+ for tuning.. thank you

You NEED to replace those stock valve springs since the lift is so high on that cam. If you don't want to replace the springs then get Tom at SSM to grind you a cam with a lower total lift of .450 You can re-use all your other top end pieces. The only thing I would replace is the timing chain, even if the mileage is low it's cheap insurance for only 35 bucks to make sure your timing is right. You must get new rocker bolts also, they can only be used once. My cam responded VERY well to the nitrous and that one will also.

Well my 3.8 is not a daily driver, it gets out maybe twice a month. I have a 92 305 for a daily driver. I think the cam is very streetable and if I needed to I could drive it daily. I don't suggest porting the throttle body for a daily driver. I did that recently and cold starts are horrible. I know Royce daily drives his cam around and seems to be enjoying it. My cam specs are 210/214 .450 total lift with 113 LS Basicly the same cam you see advertised on the SSM webpage but 113 instead of 112 LS. Call Tom and talk to him about your car and future plans for it. He can suggest a good custom grind for your application.
