  • swapping to a 5.4L 327ci corvette engine

A friend of a friend of mine has offered me a 5.4l 327 ci corvette engine. I don't know what exactly he intended to put it in but whatever it was it will not fit. I will not be doing the swap myself because I do not have the means to. However my friend will be and I was wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom. Particularly problems we will encounter.

X2 on year because the tranny won't work in a f-body if its a tranny mounted in the rear of the vette.

assuming this is a real 327, chevy quit making them back in 69, so i highly highly higly doubt it has any type of rear transmission, and probably uses a normal th350

if you want to do the swap, you're gonna need to get a new k member/trans crossmember, and all of the little stuff, like frame mounts, new radiator, etc.

the stock lt1 headers will fit the sbc fine, so you dont need to wrry about having any type of custom exhaust

if you use a high intake manifold, you're gonna have to cut into the cowl panel to clear the carb, and also if using an HEI distributor, you can only do it right once, because the cap/housing is to big to clear anything once the engine has been installed

This sounds like a pain in the *ss. But of course I figure any engine swap will be. Thanks guys, I'm just going to hold off and might swap to an ls1 or just stick with my V6.

its actually not that bad.. but you need to be aware of your state/counties inspection/emissions laws.

i looked into doing the swap and i was ready to until i found out theres no way to legally get passed the emissions
