  • Fusible link problem again.

    I am totally clueless on this one. I had this same problem before, but I got it fix and got the car running but it died on me again.

    My fusible link that runs parallel to the soleloid keeps getting fried every time I replace it and connect the battery back. I've replaced it a couple of times already but it still keeps getting fried. I've tried different version and used thick gage wires, still doing the same thing.

    Is there something that I missed?

    SHould I start looking for a new wire harness?

    electrical troubelshooting sucks. easiest way (sort of is to trace the wire back & find where it's grounding, probly the insulation has rubbed through & it hitting body somewhere.

      That's going to be hard since they are in bundles.

      SHould I just look for another wire harness then?

        Re: Fusible link problem again.

        get a dvm and check voltage/continuity from teh firewall connector. If you had an 85 it would be easy, as I have the factory shop manual for that yr. It A search on tgo or google might find you the shcematics. It would suck to put in a whole other harness & still have the same issue happen.

        also, revrify that the wiring to the solinoid is correct. may sound stupid, but sometimes little things get missed. also kinda sounds like the wire the fusible link is on is getting grounded out and that's why it frying.

          Yeah, I just got that today. Believe it or not I've never used this, but my dad is going to show me how tomorrow.

          Thanks Nate.

            dvm = digital volt meter
            dvom = digital volt, ohm meter
