What kind of trans does a 1992 3.1 bird have (4spd auto)

    700r4? 4l60e?

also, I assume the bellhousing is different than V8 cars right?

    Re: Trans

it's a 700r4, the 93 A4 is a 4L60, which is the same thing. the 4L60E which started in 94 is where the shifts are electronic.

Yes, the bell housing bolt pattern is diff than the sbc.

Not that it matters but i belive the input shaft is also a different length.

          Re: Trans

so...if doing a V8 swap...I would need a new bellhousing, V8, motor mounts and suspension...

          just out of curiousity

            Re: Trans

no, you'd need a v8 tranny, and one that would match your gauge cluster.. i.e. either a speedo cable style, or vss style.

for front suspension, going cheap-ie would be just swapping in v8 springs, v6 will lower your car a lot (been there, done that, even had a strut fail)

              Re: Trans

I actually found that out after I posted...

I was actually looking to see if they made bellhousing adapters that would bolt to the V6 trans to the V8 engine...

              do they make these?

I thiink they do..... but I'm not sure if the input shaft has the same splines for 6cyl &8cyl converetors.

Yea, after looking at everything in detail, a V8 swap looks like a major pita...

I actually found a 307 V8 powered bird for 300 that i might buy and use the interior for the 6er

                    OK, either:
                    a) IT's a bored 305 (not sure what the math makes it out to be....

                    or

                    b) Someone, for some reason, swappped in that old-mo-bubble engine inthere, w/a B-O-P tranny & swapped the tail housing or has a frame mount torque arm.

V8 isn't all that hard IF you have all the parts needed on hard, or at least a majority of them.
