Okay. My car has been having some idle troubles. I'd been having spark plug issues, and one morning I started it up and it ran beautifully, so I knew there was something wrong with it. Sure enough, it actually killed over last week in the middle of an intersection. Had to have it towed to a shop, yada-yada-yada. My mechanic replaced all 6 plugs and wires, and it runs better, but not great. When I drive it at 65-70 mph and then stop at a light, it runs rough, but steady. Every now and then though, it'll drop like it's gonna' die, but pick back up. It's a very intermittent problem. Any thoughts?

clean the idle aic control valve. and also, since your there.......(yeah, you know the list is coming)

inspect your vacuum lines, verify time on current timing chain & fuel filter (just in case) inspect air filter.

not a big list, but hopefuly any one of those will do the trick.

Yeah, that IAC valve is a b***h. Before I really started learning about cars, I pulled that out and messed with the spindle, and I've always wondered if me messin' with that thing could've screwed something up.

          Re: Weird Idle

Okay. Update. I've had all of the plugs and wires, PCV valve and air check valve replaced (been in the shop twice since this problem started) and it's still not running right. Any other thoughts? I thought I might try the distributor/rotor assembly and the O2 sensor. I don't have any way of checking the timing, but I kinda' don't think this is a timing issue, 'cuz it'll go away after the car's been running for a while. I would think with a timing issue, the roughness wouldn't go away.

relatively free check: have the icm checked. the relatively part: dielectric white goop for when you put it back in.

Dumb question, but what's the icm? I'm guessing "something-control module".
