I'm now back on the idea of getting an iroc-z28 and then doing a swap so Ive started looking for crate 350's to swap in. I found one on craigs list here: http://seattle.craigslist.org/pts/105101799.html

Does anybody know if it would be a direct drop in or if it would even fit at all. I know the the gen 1 350's don't fit in the 4th gen f-bodies so I was just wondering which motors wont fit in a 3rd gen.

I figure I can get a decent 3rd gen for around $1500, in my area atelast. Then get a 350 crate for around $500. Then use the extra $2000ish I get for sellin my car for perfomance mods.

better add $1k minimum to that crate 350. As far as what wont fit in a third gen engine bay? a straight eight. I've seen pics of a viper v10 in there.

The best way to start is with a v8 car, so swap parts will be at a minimum. Then decide your induction: carb, tpi, tbi( and the fp requirements for each).

What is a popular choice is the 383. It'sa 350 bolck bored .030 ovr w/a 400 crank. Summit/Jegs has some balanced kits from eagle for around $1k.

Then think about the tranny. SOme peeps don't liek the 700r4 tranny, but like any other, it cain be built up.

Aftermarket parts abound everywhere, and about 90% of all rear suspension parts will work 82~02.

Well I was looking at craigslist and I can get a 350 for around $500 but obviously its gonna need a little freshening up.

I started lookin at 383 crate motors for fun, and those things are effin expensive...like $4000. So then I started looking at kits for around $1000 like you said, but I'm not entirely sure which one to go with, there are so many options.

I also need to save a little bit of money to beef up the tranny/rear end.

The eagle kits specify which kit for 1pc/2pc rear maiun seal. They also state what your cr is gonna be w/which cc heads you have.
