  • Can I do this?

Not sure if My 89 bird has a problem with the positive battery terminal.

can I connect the red jumper cable to the positive side of the battery and the other end to the alternator that has a port and test it out???

I don't see why not, I have a 4 gauge wire on my Camaro running from the battery to my alternator.

Yes you can put a jumper cable from the hot battery side directly to the power terminal on the alternator. This will allow you to bypass factory wiring and eliminate it from being an issue. Just do it while the car is not running
