      Re: Street Racing

      LOL you should have seen what the Florida law was...

      you could be drivig side by side with another car on a highways, and it woudl be deemed streetracing. Even if you were going 10 under the speed limit.

      if you spin your tires, you coudl get arrested for streetracing. A guy on fuel****.net was charged with it for spinning his tires.

      If you get convicted of streetracing, its automatic suspension of your license and possible jail for up to 1 year. More severe then DUI!

      The original law...
      FS 316.191

      (1) As used in this section, the term:

      (a) "Conviction" means a determination of guilt that is the result of a plea or trial, regardless of whether adjudication is withheld.

      (b) "Drag race" means the operation of two or more motor vehicles from a point side by side at accelerating speeds in a competitive attempt to outdistance each other, or the operation of one or more motor vehicles over a common selected course, from the same point to the same point, for the purpose of comparing the relative speeds or power of acceleration of such motor vehicle or motor vehicles within a certain distance or time limit.

      (c) Raching means the use of one or more motor vehicles in an attempt to outgain or outdistance another motor vehicle, to prevent another motor vehicle from passing, to arrive at a given destination ahead of another motor vehicle or motor vehicles, or to test the physical stamina or endurance of drivers over long-distance driving routes.

      (2)(a) A person may not:

      1. Drive any motor vehicle, including any motorcycle, in any race, speed competition or contest, drag race or acceleration contest, test of physical endurance, or exhibition of speed or acceleration or for the purpose of making a speed record on any highway, roadway, or parking lot;

      2. In any manner participate in, coordinate, facilitate, or collect moneys at any location for any such race, competition, contest, test, or exhibition;

      3. Knowingly ride as a passenger in any such race, competition, contest, test, or exhibition; or

      4. Purposefully cause the movement of traffic to slow or stop for any such race, competition, contest, test, or exhibition.

      But we are lucky we live in the United states it was just deemed unconstitutional and has been thrown out. :)

        Btw... in FL you can also have your car impounded and sold for auction because of streetracing.

          So basically this law is about the equivalent of doing 30MPH over in the US. I believe that's a trip to jail here in GA.

            Wow very nice find. That the part I don't like. If I'm driving down the road minding my own business and I have some moron in a loud honda fly up next to me, which has happened, and a cop happens to pass by at the same time to him it will look like we were racing. There are a lot of holes and it needs to be more concrete and less biased. I agree 110% there needs to be a street racing law but the way they handle it is ridiculous.

                Thats a bunch of bull, actually in AZ if you get caught going under 10 miles an hour on the highway, they have to(or should right) it for Waste of Finite Resources( I forget the title 28 code would have to look it up) but it is a $38 fine and zero points. So I really doubt 11 miles would be criminal. You can also go to the court and protest any ticket, take photos if you can if the sign of the MPH and if it is dirty or is hard to see protest it to the judge. Also if your close to the 10 mph limit , say 11-14 miles over. You can contact the officer and see if he'll reduce the ticket to under 10 miles. That way you only pay $38 dollars zero points and he doesn't have to go to court for you.

                  Re: Street Racing

                  I have street raced before... with that said any law that is harsh punishment when broken for safety is a good one. Just because you can handle your car at 100mph doesn't mean someone else can. You would totally be for this if... perhaps your mother was killed by a street racer when they blow out a tire, and if they had been caught before hand and taken off the street then your mother would live.

                    I understand why there were laws about it...

                    but the one in FL left it really up to the officers... I don't like that...

                    According to the streetracing law in FL

                    I am on a road by myself no other cars... spin my tires... I will lose my license and possibly end up in prison for a year. I showed "an exhibition of speed"

                    If I pass a car driving down the road, both of us going under the speed limit. Can be called streetracing, and I can lose my license nad go to jail for a year.

                    according to the law, I could go to jail for a year, for just passing a car on the road. The cops can say it was racing while me and Driving Miss Daisy go to jail for a year.

                      Yea thats bull****. Seems to me that with tickets and traffic violations it really is guilty till proven a squirrel, blah blah blah..

                      And its all because any old cop is concidered an "expert witness" on what happens on the road.. which is horsecrap cuz as far as i can tell the only thing most cops can be called experts on is failed marriages.

                          Ok...like I said Im not against the street racing portion of it...I think its a great law for that...and even 50 over...but the rest of it is not concrete...it is to the perception of the officer...Just like someelse was posting...If u spin your tires...cars impounded licence suspended...you change lanes without a flicker? tailgating? come on...the rest of this stuff is just stupid...and the fact that you cant appeal it really irks me...why? what stops a cop from making something up because he doesnt like you, your attitude or the car your driving...want an example? here...

                          I was in the car with my bud...were coming back from the casino in Niagra and were in the right lane...and for some reason (ppl cant drive) the right lane is traveling faster then the left lane...I look over at his speedometer and were doing 90km/h in 100 km/h zone stuck behind an 18wheeler...So were crusing along until an opening opens up and he pulls out to pass the truck...He gives it some good gas but doesnt floor it...what do we see just as we come out from the truck...a cop sitting there and waiting...are we worried? No, cause we know were not speeding too badly...WELL...cop puts on his lights and pulls out from the ditch hes in and comes in behind us...gets out tells my buddy he doesnt know how to drive and that were doing 150 km/h...of course we dont argue cause thats not gunna get us anywhere...anyways long story short the officer tells my buddy hes going to drop the charge to 149 so that his licence isnt suspended on the spot...BUT if we go to court hes going to have it amended so that the licence is suspended before the trial even begins (kind of like a threat??)...So we're going to court over this cause we both know he wasnt doin 150...Hes driving a 94 integra bone stock, didnt floor it but accelerated aggresively and you want to tell me we went from 90 to 150 in the length of an 18wheeler??? Were lucky this happened a couple months ago, cause today we would have been screwed...and thats a cop who just didnt like what we were driving and wanted to be a prick...and with this law there is no appeal...so how you supposed to fight something like that? I know crap like this is gunna happen alot...

                              Haha...thats as bad as they want to take our law one step even further now and crush cars that they THINK have been modified for street racing...so if you car has been modified to go faster then it must be used for street racing and they want to crush it BEFORE you even street race...because that possibility is there...
