id bump the engine over so you can look farther down in the cylinder maybe there is a crack in the cylinder wall

yea but the weird thing is i just pulled this head two weeks ago then put it back together , everything looked fine, no shavings, nothing...now the car literally ran for 20 sec and the above is what happened.

I am going out on a limb... not that I know much about the insides of the 3.8L or your heads/pushrod/cam setup....

but is it possible the valve was hitting the cylinder wall or close to it? the gasket looks a little chewed up on where I think the valve would go if I am thinking I am looking at everything tight.

But I could just be wrong...

Re: Just got done pulling the head

cool only saying that because the upper left of the cylinder looked a little beat up.

Is this the 1st time you ran these heads(judging by the valves) it looks like its new. I assume they are larger then stock valves, maybe not so good machine work?

Re: Just got done pulling the head

What is up with the large gap right here between the head studs and the holes for the studs??

If this gap is really there, or it could be an illusion to me, but if it is, theres the source of the coolant getting in the cylinders. The stud holes are part of the water jacket, thats why that teflon grease is included with the studs. But it looks like there is a gap there, like the hole was larger than the studs.

Are the studs in the block finger tight? Can you wiggle them around? Or is what I am seeing some sort of illusion?

that is the top layer of the mls, when it has no weight on it, they curl up like that.

all the studs are in very tight

So, your turbo'd motor (I've been following these forums for a long time, just been too lazy to make an account), after you got your spark, etc. figured out, it finally runs, and the FUBARS on you? Damn cars.....love them to death but hate them for the hassles.....strangely similar to women......oh well all will end up OK and your motor will eventually be running, and you will beat viper :)
