GM is doing bad, but it's not b/c of they're employee benefits. A few things need to be said here. 1) Employee benefits are a big expense on the company, i will concede that. However, if you compare the American car workers (GM included) to German/Japanese car workers, they make approximately 30% less than their counterparts. Without doing the math, I would assume that GM doesn't pay much more per worker with benefits than their counterparts who have national benefits. 2) GM is run by idiots. Example: Look no further than the GM-Fiat alliance to build a global platform. GM was getting screwed by this deal left and right. ^ I agree. GM has terrible management. I had always thought of investing in the company but now I've changed my mind completely.
