New problem. i opened an email that had a virus in it. I got the virus cleared but i think (not sure if it was me or the virus) something got deleted that i need. When i turn on my computer, it goes to the log in screen and i click my "owner" icon it reads "loggin in" then immediately does the log off sound and reads "saving your settings" and will not do anyhting else.
Same thing happened to me on my laptop. I tried several things but I ended up having to reformat my hard drive and reinstall windows.
sounds like youre missing the whole operating system lol..do you need anything on that drive? otherwise, i'd just start fresh. or you could pop it in another computer as a slave and boot regularly and get anything off it that you need then start fresh.
i know right, cant blame me for getting the good stuff, lol.
Sounds like you cant get in at all?
Have you tried using recovery discs that came with your PC?
well my computer is a frankenstein so all i have is a burned disk that i made that has my drivers and windows SP1 all in one, so i cant recover, only restore.
See if it will let you into safe mode. If so, get rid of whatever is in startup thats causing it using 'msconfig'...
Otherwise I agree with the above post; easiest way...
i have tried booting in safe mode, i cant do anything still.

btw..this place is absolutely dead...
i have the OS i know i do, i just think i might have deleted something necessary in the registry. Ill just pop in my other machine and use it as a slave to get all my stuff off, then ill just start fresh with that machine cause its a little bit faster processor wise. its a dell though, well see. i still want to try to get linux to work.
thanks for the help. why is this place so dead??

i have an actiontec dsl/modem/wireless router all in one. I connected it to my folks computer and had my dad log sign into the internet. well if the power goes out then he has to log back in. is there anyway to remedy this, cause my dad doesnt really know anything about computers.

I agree with the above; get a Liebert not APC.
Ive never heard of having to sign into a connection. Is the multibox one provided by the service provider?
If so I vote to have it bridged and use a Linksys as the main router.
Went ahead and moved my starter wire from the back, to the front again since it had no effect on my drain on the battery. Also made me nervous driving...
