I'm sorry to hear about your loss, I know how hard it can be, I've lost both my parents. Best advise is for you and your sister to be there for one another. Thats how I got thru things.

Those of you with children please sit down and write out a will as soon as possible. It may be sad to think about, but don't leave your children with this kind of mess after your death. I didn't think it was possible to get into this much debt. We'll have to sell off her estate to pay all the bills.

My friend's mother passed 3 years ago while having back surgery. They cut something and she bleed to death. I know what you are going through.

Im sorry to tell you but you may have problems suing the doctor. Unless she has children under 18, it is very hard to get the judge to recognize the suit from a person who is not dependant upon the parent. Although they do recognize a suit by the parents for a child that dies often. I would look into it ASAP. If your father is still with you, he can sue, perhaps a younger sibling. My friend did not get one dime, he was 19 when his mother passed. But laws may be different in your area.

Just hang in their bro. Life can make turns for the worst, in the end it will all be calm and peaceful.

I never said anything about suing the doctor. They did nothing wrong. If anything, this is my mother's fault. She knew she had high blood pressure, had no medical insurance, but was too proud to go in and take care of it and get checked. She lives, from what I've been told, in one of the richest counties in the US, Oakland county, MI. She could have paid whatever she could have afforded, even if it was $2. They could have found this 5 years ago and she would be alive today.

By law, we get everything because she had no spouse. Without a will, here estate needs to go through Probate court. Someone needs to be appointed to represent the estate, an inventory of the everything has to be made, and then the fiduciary will be able to handle claims against the estate (debt), and finally close it out when everything is distributed and settled.

Man, I can't even begin to express how sorry I am to hear that. I try to put myself in your shoes for a moment and realize how close to my mom I am, and it makes me for thankful for every minute I get to spend with her, and sadder than I could ever immagine to think of her gone. I can't even imagine how you feel right now.
