  • Squeek on Driver's side

Been hearing a squeek on the drivers side. It's not like a break squeek; quite a bit higher pitched than that. I'm not ruling out a break problem, although I had the breaks checked 1 month ago, and was told the front rotors were getting thin and the pads about shot. The squeek is almost always there just driving, and I noticed it gets loudest when there's more weight on the driver's side, or the road is uneven, or when cornering right, making the car lean to that side. It's kind of a stuttering squeek, like it might have something to do with the wheel rotation. Can't really tell if it's front or rear, but most likely front as loud as it is. Any ideas what I should be looking at to find out where it's coming from?

First things first. Check the brakes on your car. It shouldn't be them, but that's where I'd look first since that's what was worked on last.

I just had Les Schwaab do a rotation a month ago and had them check the brakes. They didn't do any work on them. It was squeeking way before that, and when I told them, I think they misunderstood, and thought I was just talking about break squeek, which my car does too when it's damp. This squeek is something different, but yeah, could be another problem with the brakes. They said the rotors looked clean (no grooves or anything) but getting thin.

How old are the pads? If they didn't do anything, your pads may be wearing down. Squeal tabs might be rubbing which indicates that it's time to replace them.

I know the pads are at least 4 years old, with over 40k miles on them. I haven't replaced them since I've had the car, and don't know when/if they were replaced before that.

Yeah, if nothing else, just change your pads. You're prolly gettin close to the metal.
