  • Steering Rack issues diagnosis

Does anyone know the specific symptoms of a bad steering rack as noticed at the steering wheel, car behavior and consequence of doing nothing about it.

Sloppy steering, slow response as in you turn the wheel and it is a few degrees before anything happens. It can walk a lot on the streets while you even keep the steering wheel straight. If the rack is leaking and you don't keep up with the fluids you can bottom out your reservoir and burn up your PS pump.

No noise. Power Steering pump is leaking..car seems to want at time to move to the right
At a stop, if you turn the steering wheel a little the tires respond just as you would want them too. when you drive, if i let go of the wheel...it will go straight for a while but then move to the right. Its confusing but something just doesn't feel right.

Check steering & suspension components. Tie rods, and ball joints mostly. A good indicator would be abnormal tire wear.

Probably would benefit from a quality alignment too.
