  • performance chips/ electronic shift improvement modules

Okay so im looking into getting some more gains in power and speed for as little money as possible and i started looking into performance chips and also these electronic shift improvement modules. I noticed after getting my headers and such in my car is having problems shifting out of the lower gears, like my start/launch from a light is slow cuz the shifting in going into such high rpms before shifting. SO i was wondering what my best bet was either a chip or these shift improvement modules...and would i really see a difference in power and such between either of these?

well since you have a 97 there is no chips for you to use. Your best choice would be to get a mail order tune from texas-speed.com or pcmforless.com

A mail order tune would give you the best bang for your buck and improve your shifts

For texas speed it looks like they just send you the programmer for $225, but pcmforless it sounds like they send you a core computer and you send them your old one back for $150 and they basically build the programmer for your needs, so are both of these pretty much the same deal or is one better? And here goes the debate on which one is better. I say PCM for less. they try to get it as close to your car as possible.

they both send you a new pcm to install and you send yours back as a core charge. You don't get the hptuners program from them

So what if you get more mods done after you get the programmer, then do you have to send it back?

yes you would have to send it back to be reprogrammed.

Unless you bought your own hptuners for like 500 bucks

read the sticky, the item mentioned in the 3.4 sticky is going to be your best bet if you need to tune a 3.4

yes I have it for my car, it does not stay in your car, you flash the stock PCM with a new tune and then take out your laptop.

and yes it is worth it once you get heavy into modding
