  • 98 Camaro 3.8 constant 5 volts at TP sensor closed throttle?

What would cause a constant 5 volts at the TP sensor with the throttle in the fully closed position? This was done with the wire connector still hooked up to the sensor. I then swopped out the sensor with a spare and got the same results. I then tried disconnecting the wire connector from the sensor and turned the ignition switch on. I'm still getting 5 volts on the gray wire from terminal (C) which is the 5 volt referenece A from the PCM. According to what I have been reading, I should be getting 0.5 volts with the throttle closed, and as I operate the throttle the voltage should then increase smoothly to 5 volts in the wide open position. Any ideas as to what would cause this condition? I hope I'm istalling the sensor correctly. When I installed the sensor, I rotated it first in the clockwise position about an inch before entering the port. I then flushed it against the throttle body and slowly rotated it backwards in the counter clockwise position until the 2 bolt holes lined up. I could feel a slight resistance from the spring being activated inside the sensor. I believe that is the correct installation procedure. Thank you, Tommy.

Re: 98 Camaro 3.8 constant 5 volts at TP sensor closed throttle update!

I think my problem was that the test procedure I was following was for some other GM vehicle. After reading the instructions several times, I came to the conclusion that it has to be for some other year vehicle. My TP sensor checked out ok using the correct test procedure. One word of advice is, make sure you have the correct test procedure before you do any electrical testing on your engine harness wiring. Thanks for looking, Tommy.
